Udupi, May 3: With rising temperatures posing health risks to workers, the district administration and district disaster management authority have issued a set of guidelines to ensure their safety.
Business owners have been urged to prioritize the well-being of construction workers and roadside vendors. "Owners should provide cold water and electrolytes to the workers," stated the advisory. "Workers should drink water at regular intervals, ideally once every twenty minutes, to prevent dehydration. Additionally, they should take breaks during work. Manual outdoor tasks involving strenuous labor should ideally be scheduled for mornings or evenings."
To mitigate the impact of the scorching sun, the advisory suggests, "Workers should avoid working outdoors between 11 am and 4 pm. If feasible, builders can consider night shifts. Owners are encouraged to provide shaded areas for work and should collaborate with their employees to determine suitable work schedules."
Dr K Vidya Kumari, president of the district disaster management authority, emphasized the importance of appropriate attire: "Workers should wear white cotton clothes, hats, and sunglasses to protect themselves from the heat."
