Congress Takes Dig at Advani Yatra Over Yeddyurappa Case

New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS): The Congress Saturday took a dig at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the possible arrest of its former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa in graft cases, saying party leader L.K. Advani's Jan Chetna Yatra should have started from the state instead of Bihar.

Congress spokesman Manish Tewari said it was ironical that Yeddyurappa was facing arrest and his party was taking out a yatra on the issue of corruption.

"It would have been far more appropriate if this yatra started from Bangaluru (Bangalore)," Tewari told reporters.

Advani has embarked on a 38-day Jan Chetna Yatra across the country on the issue of corruption, which will end in Delhi next month.

Yeddyurappa, BJP's first chief minister in south India, quit July 31 after the then Lokayukta (ombudsman) N. Santosh Hegde recommended his trial for graft in illegal land mining scam.

Yeddyurappa faces jail as a Lokayukta special court Saturday rejected his bail plea and issued a warrant to arrest him. He is the first accused in two cases of illegal land denotification for monetary gains.
