Chennai, Oct 17 (IANS): The DMK Monday charged the AIADMK-led Tamil Nadu government of not complying with the Madras High Court directive on installation of web cameras in polling booths in the ongoing civic polls.

Former deputy chief minister M.K. Stalin told reporters that the court had directed the State Election Commission (SEC) to install web cameras in all polling booths.

"Web cameras are not installed in around 80-85 percent of the booths and the polling process is not videographed," he said.

Stalin said party lawyers Monday lodged a complaint with the chief justice and city police commissioner on the violation.

He said the DMK would seek repoll in all the polling stations without a web camera.

Former union minister and PMK's mayoral candidate for Chennai, in a complaint to the chief justice Monday, said the SEC has completely disregarded rules to help the ruling party cadre to indulge in corrupt practices in polling booths.

Former chief minister and DMK president M. Karunanidhi alleged that the SEC was biased in favour of the AIADMK.

Around 4.63 crore people are eligible to vote in the two-phased local body polls Monday and Wednesday.

Counting of votes takes place Friday.
