Mangaluru, Jul 5: Dinesh Gundurao, district in-charge and Health Minister, addressed pressing issues including illegal sand mining on Pavoor Uliya island and a recent 12-meter wall collapse.

During a meeting at Zilla Panchayat's Netravati Hall, MLC Ivan D'Souza highlighted concerns about sand mining, leading to a response from Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal, who disputed the severity, stating, "The report is exaggerated; it's not the reality."

Gundurao acknowledged receiving appeals on the matter earlier in the day.

Ivan D'Souza also reported on a 12-meter wall collapse, attributing it to incomplete construction despite substantial funding and foreign technology. Officials have launched an inquiry to determine the cause.

D'Souza criticised recurring waterlogging on roads during monsoons, with MP Capt Brijesh Chowta noting an increase in accidents. Education officials raised issues about a shortage of social science teachers, prompting Gundurao to address concerns about the potential closure of Kannada medium schools.
