Kasargod: Cobra allegedly participates in final rites after biting woman

Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (MS)

Kasargod, Jul 6: A unique and unsettling incident has emerged from Kurudupadavu under Paivalike Panchayat, where a woman who succumbed to a cobra bite was said to have had her final rites witnessed by the very snake that bit her.

Chomu (62), a resident of Kurudupadavu, died from a cobra bite on the night of Wednesday July 3. Her final rites were conducted on Thursday evening. As part of local tradition, a vessel of water was kept in the portico of her house overnight. Ash was sprinkled around the vessel to detect any movements, and the backdoor was locked.

On Friday morning, the family found the vessel empty, with marks indicating snake movement on the ash. It is rumoured that the cobra that bit Chomu might have returned, drank the water, and left. The cobra in question had been captured by snake catchers and released into the forest, adding a layer of mystery to the incident.

The community is grieving the loss of Chomu, a well-loved and gentle woman, and the bizarre circumstances surrounding her death have left many in shock.

Yes it is indeed cobra comes to see whether the victim still alive! I remember near kulshekar one woman stepped the cobra at night.she was bitten by cobra. Immediately she was taken to hospital and saved. Interesting thing is ahead. When the woman was in hospital the snake used to visit the house but escaping while trying to kill. Then the people went to carmel hill and they said some prayers. After that the snake was peeping from tile roof. Men killed the reptile. And they saw the exact impression of the sandals of woman. This is not a story but happened few years ago in niddel kulshekar

Still in villages this old beliefs are alive .They give a meaning to everything.Cobra or other snake must have come to drink water which didnt have in surrounding. This we say as kakathala Nyaya.(kroes meets judgement?)Her funeral and snakes appearence.I remember as we lived in village ,my mother used to keep a vessel of water outside the house ,so that no snakes would come in house in search of water (Our house was covered with dry gras)May her soul rest in peace

Snakes mostly come near houses for prey, especially frogs, rodents, and small domestic birds, and animals; seldom for water!!

How can any Cobra drink so much water (in fact Cobras get their water from the prey, and seldom drink very little water, more so during the monsoons?? This jhumla is the creation of some crooks who want to make a quick buck on it; hocus pocus! 🤔😜
