Udupi, Jul 7: Karnataka Province Agricultural Workers Association Udupi Zone Conference (Udupi, Kapu, Brahmavara) was held at CITU office hall, Brahmavara, on Sunday, July 7.

Puttamadu, State president of Karnataka State Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU), in his inaugural note, said, “The central and state government presents budgets for the labourers every year, but the they are not getting any benefits today. MLAs, MPs, administrative officers are looting the budget money.”

Puttamadu said, “There is no increase in wages of labourers according to market value. Therefore the labourers need to be politically conscious. Presently, our country has 47% Kaccha houses and 21% homeless people.” He urged the government to provide ration cards and security to labourers living in tent house, and rented houses.

Sanjeeva Balkoor, chief guest, said, “The government in the present situation, should provide free education, and health facilities to labourers.”

The conference was held under the chairmanship of Venkatesh Koni, secretary, Udupi District Agricultural Labourer’s Association.

Venkatesh Koni, secretary, Udupi district Agricultural Labourer’s association gave an introductory note. Kaviraj S Kanchan, coordinator, Udupi zone Agricultural Labourers’ Association welcomed the gathering and presided over the event. Sharada proposed a vote of thanks.

Subhash Nayak, vice-president, Udupi District Building Labour Union and Shashidar Golla, general secretary, were also present
