Udupi, Aug 7: A female peacock was rescued by social worker NIthyananda Volakadu in Brahmagiri, Udupi, on Monday after sustaining injuries from a stray dog attack.
The injured bird was unable to fly and was found struggling in the mud. Local residents alerted Volakadu, who promptly intervened and took the peacock into his care.
The rescued peacock was subsequently handed over to the forest department for necessary medical treatment.
Forest officials, including range forest officer Gururaj Kavradi, forest guard Keshav Poojary, and Pradeep Ajjarkad, were present during the rescue operation.
