Mangaluru, Aug 14: In a significant breakthrough, the police have arrested four individuals in connection with the murder of Kadappura Sameer in Kallapu. The investigation has revealed that the killing was an act of retaliation for the earlier murder of Ilyas, with Sameer's death being orchestrated by Mohammad Naushad, the brother-in-law of Ilyas.
The incident occurred when Sameer, along with his mother and family members, was on his way to his flat in Pumpwell. While speaking on the phone near a commercial complex in Kallapu, Sameer was attacked by a group of unidentified assailants who arrived in a car and brutally assaulted him with a sword, targeting his head and neck. The attack is believed to have been in retaliation for the murder of Ilyas.

The police, under the leadership of police commissioner Anupam Agarwal, detained several suspects and confirmed the involvement of five individuals in Sameer's murder. The prime suspect, Naushad, had witnessed the 2018 murder of Ilyas, which was led by Dawood and Sameer Kadappura. In that incident, Ilyas was killed in his Mangaluru flat while he was asleep. Naushad, along with Ilyas's aunt Asmath and his young child, were present during the attack.
The 2018 murder case was closed later, but Ilyas's associates were reportedly waiting for an opportunity to exact revenge. During the initial investigation into Ilyas's murder, the police had received information that Ilyas's elder brother, Farooq, was planning to retaliate. However, the police managed to thwart the plan by shooting at Farooq, forcing the attackers to retreat.
Naushad, who witnessed Ilyas's murder, has now emerged as a key suspect in Sameer's killing. Along with Naushad, Niaz from Natekal, Tanveer from Bajal, and Iqbal from Padubidri have also been taken into custody based on their involvement in the crime.
Initially, there was speculation that Sameer's murder was linked to a gold robbery involving a gang from Uppala. However, the investigation has now confirmed that the killing was a direct retaliation for Ilyas's murder. The Ullal police are continuing their investigation into the case.
