Mangaluru, Aug 12: In a chilling incident, an accused in the infamous Target Ilyas murder case was brutally killed late last night in the jurisdiction of Ullal police station near national highway at Kallapu, behind a furniture showroom.

The victim, identified as Sameer (35), a resident of Ullal Kadappura, was attacked with a sword. The incident occurred around 10 pm when Sameer had gone to a restaurant in Kallapu with his mother. As they were about to enter the restaurant, a group that had been trailing them in a car attacked Sameer with a sword as soon as he stepped out. Realizing the danger, Sameer tried to flee the scene, but the five-member gang chased him for about 500 meters, eventually catching up to him behind the furniture showroom, where they killed him.

Sameer was a key accused in the 2018 murder of Target Ilyas, a notorious rowdy-sheeter, who was killed in a flat in Jeppu by a group of men including Dawood, Shameer, Riyaz, Namir, Abdul Khader, Umar Nawaf, Mohammad Nazir, Naushad, and Asghar Ali. Shameer, the second accused in that case, along with Dawood, had directly entered the flat and murdered Ilyas, as revealed during the investigation. Shameer had recently been released from jail in connection with that case.

A large crowd gathered at the crime scene, and Ullal police have launched an investigation into the murder..
