Udupi: Over one lac illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Karnataka?

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Oct 14: One of the seven illegal Bangladeshi immigrants arrested in Malpe claimed that approximately 25,000 people have entered India illegally from Bangladesh in the past three to five years. According to police sources, the total number of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Karnataka could exceed one lac.

A network reportedly facilitates the illegal entry of Bangladeshi nationals into India through states like West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya, and Mizoram.

Dr K Arun, SP of Udupi district, stated, “It is difficult to determine the exact number and locations of illegal immigrants once they enter India. Agencies like the BSF, Army, union government, state government, and the home department are involved in the process. Once inside India, these immigrants can travel freely by bus or train. Police investigations into the arrested individuals are ongoing.”

Fake documents are prepared for the immigrants at the Indian border, which they use across the country. Police sources estimate that around 25,000 illegal immigrants have settled in Karnataka over the past few years, primarily in Shivamogga, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Bengaluru, and Chikkamagaluru districts.

The arrested immigrants have revealed details of the operation to the police. However, tracking such a large number of immigrants remains a challenge. Some, having lived in Karnataka for years, speak fluent Kannada and have integrated with the local population. Some have even purchased property and possess Aadhaar cards and voter IDs.

The intelligence department lacks precise information on these immigrants. A retired police officer suggested that local police stations must play a more active role in tracking them down.

Police are also urged to investigate brokers who bring labourers from other states to Karnataka. Locals in Malpe claim that a large number of Bangladeshi nationals work at the Malpe fishing port and on boats.

Quite possible because..... we have underemployment problem in our region because almost all people in our Udupi and Mangalore region at least 10 to 12th Grade pass-out.... 95% out of those pass-out never wants to work in Construction field..... So of course, Contractor will look for other source of manpower especially in Construction field or food chain outlets

In Kerala. You can find billboards, restaurant menus, Bus schedules, directions in Bangali Language as well. Who cares for background checks as you can get the job done with very minimum cost. The Banladeshis agree for a meagre salary of even Rs 400 per month or even lesser if they get a bed space even in the cowshed.

Just visit City Center in Mangalore. All the security guards in and out off the mall are Bangalis. When asked they will bluff, that they hail from Orissa, Assam , UP etc. During Dasara times, they were even involved in 'karadi vesha' . I was shocked to hear them speak broken Hindi in a Bangali accent.

If there are one lakh illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Karnataka alone, then how many would there be in other states? There must be a lot in West Bengal too, because they share the same language. How did they enter India? Some have even made Indian passports and some have received Aadhaar cards. This is a serious issue. If Home Minister Omit Shah remains strict, it will be good; otherwise, the crime rate in India will keep increasing and people will become unemployed.

This menace will not stop so easily... It is people who employ them without background checks partly responsible for the problem... Lack of local workers is driving the employers to seek alternatives... Compulsory police clearances for every such individual must come into force... Bangalore too is flooded with bangla infiltrators...
