Udupi: Youth's message to girl on currency note goes viral

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Oct 15: A photo of a currency note on which a youth scribbled a message to a girl has gone viral on social media. The note was found at a general store in the city.

The message, written on an Rs 20 currency note, reads ‘Anjali Yake College Barlilla’ (Why didn’t Anjali come to college?). It appears the youth attempted to send the message to the girl, but the note ended up in the store, leading to its circulation on social media.

Netizens are calling for strict action against the youth for defacing the currency note. According to the law, writing on or defiling currency notes is a legal offense.

The currency note was received by a customer as change. Many shopkeepers refuse such notes as defacement reduces their longevity. The RBI allows torn or defaced notes to be exchanged at banks.

RBI must take strict action if anyone misused the currency notes. Formerly bank cashier writes on the currency note with pencil. Now they have stoped that habit, but in our side Tiger dancing troupes are making currency Garland.. In north India they throw the currency notes on head of dancers or marriage procession. Our Bank and RBI must ban all damaged notes and instruct banks not to honour the currency notes. and refuse..then Only that way public will get alert.

It is wrong to play with legal tender like currency notes... The guy has chosen smaller denomination which is understandable... But the offence is not of a great magnitude... It was a form of expression of affection and concern... In other countries like UAE any such notes cannot be turned down by businesses as long as number on the note is legible... Broader minded will just laugh and forgive him... Others will keep fuming about it....

In places where even the educated act like uneducated fool's, this incident is fairly common; secondly according to the central bank scribbling should be avoided, but such notes are still legal tender and cannot be refused by anyone! I remember most shopkeepers in DK till a year ago were refusing to accept Re 10/- coins saying they are fake 🤥!?
