Mangaluru, Nov 15: St Aloysius Higher Primary School celebrated Children’s Day on November 14 with enthusiasm and joy. The event commenced with a solemn prayer song, setting a reverent tone for the day. Padmanaban Rao, extended a warm welcome to the gathering, which included the chief guests for the day, the school pupil leader Bhavish M and assistant school pupil leader, Rishon Steve D’Sa. The headmistress, Jositta Noronha and assistant headmaster, Liya D'Souza greeted them with flowers alongside PTA member Shaila Cordero, teachers, supportive staff, PTA members and students graced the occasion.
In tribute to India’s beloved Chacha of Children, Jawaharlal Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi, the dignitaries offered floral respects to their portraits. Following this, a wishing song was sung for the children, by teachers creating an atmosphere filled with happiness. To add to the festivity, the PTA members and teachers entertained the children with an engaging series of dance performances, which brought a lively spirit to the auditorium.
Padmanaban Rao delighted the young audience with lighthearted jokes and a vibrant traditional Goan dance added a touch of cultural celebration. Winners of the fancy dress competition, held on November 9th, were awarded certificates.
Notably, students who had excelled in the Prathiba Karanji Taluk-level competitions were honored. Maithri of class 4 has secured first place in fancy dress and is selected to compete at the District Level. Adithya of class 4 placed second in Kannada recitation, Jordan from class 3 secured 2nd place in English recitation, Zaima from class 6 attained 2nd place in Quran Dharmika Patana, while Praneeth of class 7 secured 3rd place in clay modelling and Laxminarayan of class 6 secured third place in Sanskrit Dharmika Patana. These students, along with participants of interschool competitions, received certificates for their achievements.
During the programme, Rishon D’Sa addressed the gathering, reflecting on the significance of Children’s Day. In her address, headmistress Jositta Noronha inspired the students by emphasizing that the future lies in their hands. She encouraged them to embrace the values instilled both at school and home and to follow in the footsteps of Jawaharlal Nehru, who believed in the boundless potential of young minds.
Mayola Primal Pinto concluded the programme with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to everyone who contributed to making the day memorable. Teacher Shoba Pinto skillfully compered the event, ensuring a seamless flow of activities.
The celebration concluded with the National Anthem, followed by a spirited dance session where the children danced to a mix of popular filmi songs. As a special treat, a meal with delicious sweets was served to all the children, rounding off a joyous and memorable day of celebration. A friendly cricket match between the student and staff team added glamour to the day.
