Mamata Assures Education and Training for Minorities

Kolkata, Dec 15 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Thursday said her government will provide the requisite infrastructure to enable the minorities to increase their representation in government services.

"I do not want to hear that the minorities are not represented enough in the service sector. We will create the infrastructure for your education and training and you will have to utilise them. I want to see you in higher posts," she said.

The Sachar Committee report revealed that Muslim representation in government service in the state was much lower than their share of population.

Inaugurating the new building of the Aliah University here, Banerjee said that apart from establishing training centres especially for the minority community, a large number of madrasas (Islamic seminaries) will be opened in the state.

"I have a dream to create many madrasas. I want to see you grow and develop so long as I am here. I am not here to stay for always. So I urge you to utilise all the governmental facilities and ensure your development," she added.
