Mangaluru, Dec 21: On 20th December 2024, with the theme – human values, St Aloysius College Higher Primary School celebrated its much-anticipated Annual Day with great enthusiasm and grandeur. The event began with a vibrant procession, as the dignitaries were escorted to the stage by the school band. The atmosphere was further enriched by the warm and cheerful welcome extended by the students.
The programme opened with a melodious prayer song, invoking God’s blessing, followed by a captivating semi-classical fusion welcome dance. The young students from nursery and first standard charmed the audience with their thematic performances highlighting the values of caring for nature and respecting grandparents.
The formal programme commenced with Jositta Noronha, the headmistress, extending a heartfelt welcome to the distinguished dignitaries, the president, Fr Melwin Pinto SJ, rector of St Aloysius Institutions, the chief guest, Sushanth Tharappan, alumnus and executive vice president, head – HR, Infosys Limited, the correspondent, Fr Johnson Pinto SJ, the vice president of the PTA, Victor Serrao and the president of the alumni association, Dr Christopher D’Souza, spl Bhavish M and aspl Rishon Steve Dsa. Each dignitary was presented with a sapling, symbolizing the school’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
The chief guest, Sushanth Tharappan, reminisced about his fond memories at St Aloysius, describing them as pivotal moments in his life. Addressing the students, he shared three key messages: to believe in oneself as a source of hope, to embrace hard work as exemplified by cricketer Virat Kohli and to emulate the selfless care of superheroes by helping others. He urged teachers to inspire hope in their students and encouraged parents to support, motivate and spend quality time with their children. Concluding his address, Tharappan expressed his pride as an alumnus and extended warm wishes.
The ceremony continued with the distribution of prizes, recognizing academic merit, achievements in national-level competitions like the Spell Bee, sports accolades and scholarships for outstanding contributions.
In his presidential address, Fr Melwin Pinto SJ spoke eloquently about the significance of global citizenship in Jesuit education. He emphasized the need for empathy, unity and breaking barriers of caste, creed, and community, drawing inspiration from the African philosophy of Ubuntu, meaning “I am because we are.” His address was a call to foster humanity, love and harmony among students.
Jositta Noronha, the headmistress, presented the annual report, encapsulating the achievements of the school in academics, culture and extracurricular activities. She highlighted the dedication of the institution to social causes, environmental protection, and fostering communal harmony. A thoughtfully curated video showcased the vibrant activities of the year, leaving the audience inspired.
Following the formal proceedings, the cultural programme commenced, showcasing an array of stunning performances. These included:
? A thematic dance highlighting the importance of sustainability and reducing plastic usage.
? The English song, ‘Stronger Every Day,’ which celebrated resilience and inner strength.
? A dance on natural resources, emphasizing the need to cherish and protect these precious gifts.
? A patriotic dance, a vibrant tribute to the unity and diversity of our nation.
? A Kannada drama, Santhoshada Hakki, delivering a profound message on the pursuit of happiness.
? A dance embodying values like hope, love, respect and self-confidence, integral to shaping character.
? A medley of folk dances from various Indian states, presenting a kaleidoscope of the nation’s rich cultural heritage.
? A dance drama inspired by the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign, advocating for gender equality and the empowerment of daughters.
? A bollywood dance medley, adding an energetic finale to the performances.
The orchestra team captivated the audience mid-event with a series of marvelous melodies, seamlessly blending their instrumental brilliance with soulful singing performances, leaving the audience thoroughly mesmerized and immersed in the musical experience.
The programme was skillfully compered by talented 7th standard students: Sara Yashal, Sweedal D’Sa, Aradhana Nayak, Lionel Shaun, Sanjana, Densia Dennis, Akshaj N Pai, and Stalson Sam D’Souza.
The assistant headmaster, Liya D’Souza, proposed the vote of thanks, expressing heartfelt gratitude to all contributors.

The celebration concluded on a high note with the school anthem, resonating with pride and unity, leaving the audience with fond memories of a spectacular evening.
