Mangaluru, Dec 23: The Mathematics Week celebration at Lourdes Central School was an exciting and engaging event that brought together students and teachers to explore the fascinating world of mathematics. This report highlights the key events and achievements from the week, showcasing the enthusiasm and creativity of the school community in celebrating the wonders of mathematics.
The ‘Maths week’ at Lourdes Central School commenced from December 16 to 20.
On December 16, the maths week was inaugurated during the general assembly, conducted by the students of class IV. The principal of school Fr Johnson Sequeira, symbolically inaugurated the maths week by unfolding the maths model prepared by the students of class IX. During the inaugural programme, students showcased the importance of mathematics in daily life through a melodious song.
On December 17, various activities were conducted for all the students of class 1 to 9.
These activities focused on integration of art in maths and usage of maths in daily life. Students displayed their knowledge and understanding of maths concepts very creatively in the form of rangoli, crochet work and model making. The best outcome of each section of a class was awarded prizes and the models were exhibited in the classroom and maths lab.
On each day of the maths week, the assemblies were conducted to emphasize the importance of mathematics by highlighting the topics ‘Maths in everyday life‘, ‘Art integration‘ and mathematical operations through skit, dance and songs.
The finale of maths week was held on December 20This day is also celebrated as ‘National Mathematics Day’. On this day students of class VII and VIII performed a role play focusing on the importance of mathematics in daily life. A dance on mathematics symbols was performed and a kannada song was sung by the students of the primary section.
The winners of various activities conducted during the week were awarded with certificates. The principal Fr Jonson Sequeira appreciated the students for their efforts in preparing and presenting meaningful presentations depicting the role of maths.
The week not only enhanced participants' appreciation for math but also fostered a deeper understanding of how it can be applied to real-world situations.
