Mangaluru, Jan 6: The students of class 9 A and B of St Agnes High School visited Veronica Vihar, Maryhill on January 4. This visit was to instil the values of empathy and compassion towards differently abled people. Sr Maria Jyothi, welcomed all the teachers and the students with warmth and affection. She shared the insights about the home, its mission to support mentally and physically challenged individuals.
Viona Shania, secretary of the alumni association spoke about the purpose of the visit. The students performed an entertainment programme which included action songs, dance and creative advertisement. The inmates enthusiastically clapped along, laughed and even joined in.
The main objective of the visit was the one-to-one interaction between the students and the inmates. Sr Gloria AC the headmistress, Dimple, Bhavya and Suneetha accompanied the students, who also guided them to approach the day with genuine openness. The teacher’s facilitated conversations, helped the students to understand the unique needs of the mentally and physically challenged individuals. The students spoke to the inmates and even listened to the residents’ stories.
The students of the school had displayed their generosity by contributing their savings, pulses, soaps and other essential items. This action showed the importance of selflessness and the belief that no contribution small when given with love. The headmistress Sr Gloria AC handed over the contribution of cash and kind collected during the charity drive by the students.
Racheal of class 9B compered the programme. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to interact with the inmates which helped the students to foster the spirit of connection.
