Vijayanagara, Jan 12: Police will take tough action against those responsible for cutting udders of cows in Chamarajpet in Bengaluru, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said while terming the BJP protest on the issue along with Hindu organisations as “politically motivated” to polarise communities.
Speaking to media persons in Vijayapura, where he participated in the mass marriages organised in the SS Farm House in Bandihalli of the district on Sunday, Siddaramaiah condemned the alleged violence against cows in Chamarajpet and declared that police will identify and take stern action against the miscreants.
“We don’t have information about the culprits,” he said, adding that BJP's Opposition Leader R Ashoka’s labelling of the culprits as “jehadis” is nothing more than an attempt to create communal tension and polarise communities.
The police commissioner has been directed to identify and nab the culprits and take stern action, he said.
Cabinet to discuss Caste Census report
The chief minister indicated that the State Cabinet will discuss the report of the commission on caste census and a decision will be taken after discussion.
“It is quite natural that there will be contrary views either in support or in opposition as the matter involves a sensitive subject like caste census,” he said.
Siddaramaiah said the State Government has spent Rs 160 crore on the caste census and the report has been accepted. However, a decision has not been taken, he said.
The chief minister congratulated the couples who entered into wedlock at the mass marriage ceremony and lauded the initiative as it involved poor couples from different religious communities.
