Melvyn Rodrigues, H M Pernal, Devadas Pai, Venkatesh Nayak among Goa Konkani Akademi awardees

Panaji, Jan 17: The Goa Konkani Akademi has announced its esteemed awards for 2022, 2023, and 2024. Renowned Konkani stalwarts from Karnataka, Melvyn Rodrigues and Devadas Pai, have been conferred with the Madhav Manjunath Shanbhag Konkani Seva Puraskar.

The announcement was made by Goa Konkani Akademi on Wednesday, January 17.

The award committee recognized Rodrigues and Pai for their selfless contributions for enriching Konkani literature and uniting various Konkani communities across the Konkan region. Rodrigues received the award for 2023, while Pai was honored for 2024. The award consists of Rs 50,000, shawl, citation and certificate. 

Additionally, noted critic and writer HM Pernal won the award for his book 'Konknni Kavyem: Rupam ani Rupakam' (for the year 2023), while young poet Venkatesh Nayak received the award for his book 'Vatte Voilem Ragat' (for the year 2022). Both are celebrated Konkani writers from Karnataka. The award consists of Rs 25,000, shawl, citation and certificate. 

The awards will be conferred on the writers on tuesday, February 4, 2025 at Darbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Dona Paula, Panaji, Goa.
