Bantwal, Jan 23: An inter-state robber has been arrested by the Dakshina Kannada police in connection with a robbery at the home of a businessman in Bolarthuru, Vittal, on the night of January 3, 2025. The robbery, carried out by six unidentified individuals posing as Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials, led to the theft of approximately Rs 30 lac in cash.
The robbers had arrived at the businessman’s home, claiming to be ED officers conducting a search. Once inside, they ransacked the house and made off with the cash before fleeing the scene. Following the incident, a case was registered at the Vittal police station under crime number 02/2025.
In response to the crime, Dakshina Kannada district police, under the direction of SP Yatheesh N, formed four special investigation teams to track down the culprits. After an intensive operation, the police successfully apprehended the prime accused, Anil Fernandes (49 years old), a resident of Mathilil, Trikkadavur, Perinad, Kollam district, Kerala.
The police also seized significant items from the accused, including an Ertiga car (KL-02-BP-1104) used in the crime, Rs 5,00,000 in cash, and a fake vehicle number plate (TN-20-DB-5517) that had been affixed to the car during the robbery. The total value of the seized items, including the cash and vehicle, is estimated at Rs 11,00,000.
Efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing, and authorities are working tirelessly to bring all involved parties to justice.
The investigation continues, with officers from various police stations within Dakshina Kannada actively participating in the case.
