Mangaluru: Preventive detention order issued against Surathkal resident under Goonda Act

Mangaluru, Feb 1: A preventive detention order has been issued against Bharath Shetty (27), son of Raviraj Shetty, a resident of Ashraya Colony, Idya Village, Surathkal, under Section 3 of the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders, Slum Grabbers, and Video or Audio Pirates Act, 1985 (Goonda Act). The order was issued on January 31, 2025.

Bharath Shetty has a criminal record with 13 serious cases registered against him across various police stations under the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate and Dakshina Kannada district. These cases include charges of murder, attempted murder (in four separate incidents), dacoity, unlawful assembly, assault, and offenses against women, among others.

Despite facing multiple legal actions, Shetty has continued his criminal activities, posing a serious threat to public peace and order.

To prevent any further criminal actions and ensure law and order, authorities have resorted to issuing a preventive detention order against him.
