Agartala, Feb 8: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday emphasized the transformative role of drone technology in enhancing employment and productivity across key sectors such as agriculture, security, power services, wildlife conservation, disaster management, and healthcare in remote areas.

Speaking at the inauguration of 'Skill-Uday Tongnai,' a skill development programme in Narsingarh, West Tripura, Saha lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Act East Policy,’ stating that India’s progress hinges on the northeast’s development.

"The northeast once grappled with terrorism and kidnappings, but after Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, the region witnessed unprecedented growth. Under the HIRA model, Tripura now has six national highways, improved internet, and rail connectivity," he said.

Saha noted that many returning to the state after years are amazed by its transformation. Highlighting efforts to ensure lasting peace, he mentioned 12 MoUs signed between the central government and various organisations, including militant groups.

"Development is impossible without peace. Tripura has abundant untapped resources. I recently met a top industrialist in Mumbai, who assured that a team would soon visit our state," he revealed.

Tripura, the second-largest producer of natural rubber after Kerala, is now seeing industry growth in this sector. He also credited PM Modi for creating a dedicated skill development department, stressing that economic progress depends on a skilled workforce.

The Chief Minister highlighted Agarwood as another key resource now being exported to the Middle East following the lifting of restrictions, with a projected revenue target of Rs 10,000 cr.
Saha pointed out that despite skilled manpower, Tripura’s tea industry was neglected for decades. However, with the opening of a tea auction center, the industry is seeing higher prices and growth.

"Tripura ranks second in GSDP growth among northeastern states. We are working across sectors to drive the state forward," he said, adding that a newly developed drone demonstrates the state's commitment to innovation and technological progress.
