Mangaluru, Feb 17: The recent drastic changes in weather conditions have raised health concerns, with February, typically a cold month, experiencing unexpected heat. This shift has led to an increase in seasonal illnesses, prompting the health department to implement precautionary measures.
Over the past few days, cases of cough, cold, fever, throat infections, and even skin diseases have been reported across the district. Children, especially school-going students, are increasingly falling ill. In response, some schools have advised parents not to send children displaying symptoms of infectious diseases.

To address the situation, the health department has initiated awareness programs in schools under the National Child Health Mission. Students are being educated on hygiene practices, including proper hand-washing, to prevent infections. Educational institutions have also been instructed to adopt preventive measures.
A door-to-door survey is being conducted across the Mangaluru City Corporation limits and other parts of the district to monitor fever cases and potential outbreaks of infectious diseases. Health workers, including ASHA volunteers, malaria control staff, health protection officers, and municipal health workers, are visiting households to identify and examine individuals with symptoms.
Doctors have warned that common fevers, particularly viral infections, spread easily from person to person, emphasizing the need for caution and preventive measures to curb further transmission.
