Gujarat, Feb 19: In a significant cybercrime case, the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch has apprehended two individuals from Maharashtra for allegedly hacking into a hospital’s CCTV system and distributing footage of women undergoing medical check-ups in Rajkot. The suspects are said to have shared the footage through a Telegram channel.
The breach, which involved accessing the hospital’s IP address, was uncovered after explicit videos of women undergoing gynecological treatments surfaced online. The suspects, arrested from different districts in Maharashtra, are believed to have a history of similar crimes involving the distribution of explicit videos via digital platforms. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the broader network of individuals involved in this illegal activity.
The footage was traced back to Payal Maternity Home in Rajkot, a well-established hospital that has conducted thousands of deliveries and surgeries since its inception in 1998. The videos appeared on Telegram and a YouTube channel called MeghaMbbs -m5j, prompting an investigation by the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch and Rajkot police.
So far, at least six videos have been found circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), and the Telegram channel linked to the accused reportedly claims to possess over 90 similar videos. Authorities suspect that the incident is part of a larger nationwide racket involving the distribution of medical examination footage for profit.
The investigation has led to the discovery of a potential organized network operating across multiple states, including Gujarat, and authorities are now working to track down and dismantle the illegal operation. Following a formal complaint, a team from the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch raided the hospital, interviewing staff and doctors to gather evidence.
As investigations continue, law enforcement is focused on identifying all individuals involved and ensuring that the perpetrators face justice for their actions.
