New Delhi, Mar 12: The Government of India has successfully rescued and repatriated 266 Indian nationals from Southeast Asian countries, including Myanmar and Thailand, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed on Wednesday.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that the individuals were released from cybercrime centres and safely brought back to India on Tuesday aboard an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft.

“Indian Embassies collaborated with the governments of Myanmar and Thailand to ensure their release and facilitate their repatriation,” Jaiswal said.

This follows a similar operation on Monday, where 283 Indians were repatriated after falling victim to fraudulent job rackets in Myanmar. Many of them had been misled by fake employment offers and forced into illegal cybercrime activities along the Myanmar-Thailand border.

The MEA reiterated its advisory to Indian citizens, urging them to verify the credentials of foreign employers before accepting job offers. It emphasized the importance of checking the legitimacy of recruiting agents and companies through official channels to prevent falling prey to such scams.

The Indian government continues to make sustained efforts to combat human trafficking and protect its citizens from fraudulent employment schemes abroad.
