New Delhi, Mar 14: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has criticized the Tamil Nadu government for omitting the rupee symbol from the state budget logo, stating that the move undermines national unity and economic identity.
Expressing her displeasure, Sitharaman emphasized that the rupee symbol is a representation of India’s financial sovereignty and must be respected in all official documents. “A state budget is not just a financial statement; it reflects the economic direction of the government. The removal of the rupee symbol raises concerns about the intent behind such a decision,” she said.
The Tamil Nadu government has defended its new budget logo, asserting that the redesign aligns with the state’s economic vision. However, opposition leaders and BJP representatives have accused the ruling party of deliberately sidelining national symbols for political motives.
The controversy has triggered a heated debate, with critics demanding an explanation from the state government. Meanwhile, the DMK-led administration has yet to issue a formal response on the matter.
