New Delhi, Mar 20: Upskilling in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and data science has led to an average salary increase of 65% for working professionals in India, according to a report released on Thursday.
The study, conducted by higher education and professional training firm Great Learning, analyzed data from 1,000 professionals and highlighted the long-term benefits of continuous learning on career advancement. The findings reveal that upskilling has played a crucial role in securing leadership positions, salary hikes, and overall employability improvements.

Early-career professionals (0-3 years of experience) witnessed the highest growth, with an average salary increase of 139%. Mid-career professionals (3-8 years of experience) also experienced substantial benefits, receiving an average hike of 93%. For those in mid-to-senior roles (8-12 years of experience), the average salary growth stood at 50%, while senior professionals (12+ years of experience) saw a 41% rise.
Beyond financial gains, 80% of professionals reported a positive career shift after upskilling in AI/ML and data science. Within two years of completing their training, 74% of professionals either secured promotions or transitioned to new roles. Among them, 69% moved into new positions within their current organization or joined new employers, while 31% reported significant enhancements in their existing roles.
Hari Krishnan Nair, Co-Founder of Great Learning, emphasized the growing importance of upskilling. “Upskilling is no longer just an alternative—it’s a powerful tool for achieving career milestones. It has helped professionals switch careers, step into managerial and leadership roles, and gain financial rewards from their career growth,” he said.
The report also noted a significant rise in leadership positions post-upskilling, with team management roles increasing by 80%. Overall, two out of three professionals experienced upward career mobility.
The findings reinforce the transformative impact of continuous learning, making AI, ML, and data science upskilling a key driver for career success in today’s evolving job market.
