Bhatpara, Mar 27: Tension gripped Bhatpara in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district after unidentified miscreants hurled bombs and opened fire outside the residence of a BJP leader late Tuesday night.
According to eyewitnesses, multiple crude bombs were thrown near the BJP leader’s house, followed by gunfire, causing panic among locals. Security forces rushed to the spot as residents fled indoors fearing further violence.

The incident comes amid rising political tensions in West Bengal ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. BJP leaders have alleged that the attack was politically motivated, blaming rival party workers for attempting to intimidate opposition voices.
Local police have cordoned off the area and launched an investigation. Preliminary reports suggest that the attackers managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Authorities are analyzing CCTV footage to identify those responsible.
Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded a high-level probe and increased security for its leaders in politically sensitive regions like Bhatpara, which has witnessed clashes in the past.
