Hyderabad, Mar 28: In a chilling case of honour killing, a young man was brutally murdered by the father of his girlfriend in Muppirithotha village, Peddapalli district of Telangana, on the victim’s birthday.
The deceased, identified as Sai Kumar, had been in a relationship with a girl from the same village for over two years. However, their relationship faced stiff opposition from the girl’s father, Muthyam Saraiah, due to caste differences.

According to reports, while Kumar was celebrating his birthday with friends on the village outskirts on Thursday night, the girl's father launched a premeditated attack. Witnesses claim that Saraiah, armed with an axe, attacked Kumar while he was cutting his birthday cake.
Despite Kumar’s attempt to flee the scene, he collapsed after running some distance. The attacker continued his assault, inflicting fatal injuries before escaping from the spot. Kumar’s friends tried to intervene but were unable to stop the assailant.
Kumar was rushed to a nearby hospital in an autorickshaw but succumbed to his injuries on the way. The tragic incident has sparked outrage in the village, with locals condemning the brutal act.
Kumar’s father, Parshuramulu, alleged that Saraiah had been plotting the murder for the last five months and expressed his disappointment over the police's inaction. According to Parshuramulu, they had earlier filed a complaint about threats to Kumar’s life but claimed that authorities failed to take the issue seriously.
Police have registered a case and intensified their efforts to apprehend the accused. Security has been beefed up in the village to prevent any possible retaliation or unrest.
The incident has once again highlighted the grim reality of honour killings rooted in caste-based discrimination. Authorities have assured the victim’s family of a thorough investigation and appropriate action against the accused.
