Paris, Mar 30: In a major medical breakthrough, artificial intelligence (AI) has shown the ability to detect life-threatening heart arrhythmias before they lead to sudden cardiac arrest.
A team of researchers from Inserm, Paris Cité University, and Harvard, in collaboration with Cardiologs (Philips Group), has developed an advanced AI-powered neural network capable of predicting serious heart rhythm disorders up to two weeks in advance.

The study, published in the European Heart Journal, analyzed over 240,000 ambulatory electrocardiograms (ECGs) from six countries, identifying patients at risk with over 70% accuracy. The AI model was also found to be 99.9% accurate in confirming no-risk cases, making it a potential game-changer in cardiac care.
According to Dr Laurent Fiorina of the Paris Cardiovascular Research Centre, the AI examines subtle electrical signals of the heart, detecting warning signs that could otherwise go unnoticed.
If further validated, the AI technology could be integrated into hospital monitoring systems, Holter devices, and even smartwatches, offering real-time alerts to patients and doctors. Clinical trials are now planned to assess its real-world effectiveness.
