Kota: JEE aspirant from Lucknow dies by suicide two days before exam

Kota, Apr 1: In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old JEE aspirant from Lucknow allegedly died by suicide in Kota, Rajasthan, just two days before his scheduled exam. The incident has once again brought the spotlight on the immense academic pressure faced by students preparing for competitive exams in the coaching hub of Kota.

According to police sources, the student was residing in a hostel and preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) at a reputed coaching institute in the city. Authorities found a note in his room indicating that the pressure of studies had overwhelmed him.

The police have initiated an investigation and informed the student's family. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination.

This incident adds to the growing number of student suicides reported from Kota, known as India’s coaching capital, where thousands of aspirants flock each year to prepare for entrance exams like JEE and NEET.

Experts have repeatedly raised concerns about the mental health challenges faced by students in such high-pressure environments. Calls for improved counselling facilities and stress management programs have grown louder in recent years.

Authorities have urged students to seek help when overwhelmed and assured them of enhanced mental health support systems in coaching institutes.
