Chennai, Apr 2: Tamil Nadu BJP spokesperson and senior leader ANS Prasad has condemned the recent statements made by DMK MP A Raja, alleging that they demean the spiritual practices of the Tamil people and incite division among communities.

Prasad stated that Raja’s remarks are both offensive and divisive, as they aim to polarize the population along communal lines. According to the BJP leader, Raja’s claim that wearing a sacred mark (pottu) and carrying a rosary (kayiru) are traits of ‘sanghis’ (a term used for right-wing Hindus) is a deliberate distortion of Hindu customs and traditions.

He added that Raja’s statements undermine the democratic right to practice one’s faith without fear of criticism or hostility. “Such comments amount to hate speech and are clearly targeted at discrediting a particular community and its cultural values,” Prasad remarked.

The BJP leader called on Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin to take prompt action against Raja, asserting that the DMK leader’s comments not only threaten communal harmony but also challenge the principles of religious freedom enshrined in the Constitution.

Highlighting the devotion within Stalin’s family, including his wife Durga Stalin, Prasad urged the Chief Minister to denounce Raja’s remarks and ensure that Hindu beliefs are honored and safeguarded.

According to Prasad, the DMK has repeatedly exhibited a disregard for Hindu traditions, which he claims is evident in their perceived efforts to downplay Hindu festivals and customs. He called this an "anti-Hindu agenda" that risks disrupting social unity in the state.

The BJP leader concluded by urging the people of Tamil Nadu to reject divisive rhetoric and advocate for mutual respect and harmony among all communities. He also demanded that A. Raja be expelled from both the DMK party and the state to maintain peace and cohesion.
