Brahmavar, Apr 6: As an immediate measure to prevent accidents at the Brahmavar black spot at Mahesh hospital junction, the NHAI authority has installed rumble strips.

Rumble strips with white highlighted paint have been installed at Mahesh Hospital junction and near SMS Church, the two major black spots of the town.

Rumble strips or alert strips, are a traffic calming feature designed to alert drowsy or inattentive drivers by creating a tactile vibration and audible rumbling when tyres pass over them. Rumble strips is meant to alert drivers who are drifting out of their lane or approaching a hazard, such as a stop or slowdown.  

On Saturday, April 5, the tahsildar along with DySP had conducted a spot inspection. The officials team had gathered information on the major junctions of Brahmavar and the impact of accidents at these points.

These rumble strips are intended to lower the speed of vehicles in the major junctions thus avoiding the accidents. The technical committee formed will submit a feasibility report on April 7 and a district level national highway meeting chaired under the president ship of district commissioner will have a meeting on April 8.

    These Rumble Strips are useless as we can see in the second picture a bike rider deviating from the main road and driving on the service road unless a barricade is installed to block the deviation at these spots for deviation. Install traffic cameras as well.

    It is an immediate requirement to make a proper flyover and underneath road crossings wherever required with proper signals.

    In the picture, it looks like speed breaking strips not zebra crossing. One more thing zebra crossings are unscientific on highways, but we can see several zebra crossing on NH 66. Flyover is the only solution for places like this.

    FYI, Rumble Strips are not used for pedestrian crossing. Nobody puts zebra crossings or rumble strips on highways.

    It costs a young life just to paint a Zebra Crossing Strips. Wonder how many innocent lives have to be sacrificed for a pedestrian underpass or any other permanent solution. I remember in thokattu it took a lives of a just married couples to just to move the median little further

    better make flyover bridge .. is easy and save rather making Zebra crossing. and its NH66 it wrong to place it .... authority should first learn proper safety rules of road......

    We cannot rely on rash drivers to lower their speed on highways, better to construct pedestrian bridges at crossing points.
