Palghar, Apr 7: Tension flared briefly in Maharashtra’s Palghar district after unidentified individuals allegedly threw eggs at a motorbike rally held to mark the occasion of Ram Navami on Sunday. The incident occurred in Virar (West), prompting swift police intervention to maintain law and order.
The rally, organised by Sakal Hindu Samaj, had begun from the Sarveshwar Temple in Chikhaldongri and was heading towards the Pimpleshwar Temple in Global City. The procession witnessed participation from around 100 to 150 motorbikes, a ceremonial chariot, and two tempos, drawing a sizeable crowd of devotees and locals.

According to police sources, the situation turned tense when a few bikers who had taken a side street near the destination were suddenly targeted by eggs allegedly thrown from a nearby building. The unexpected act angered some rally participants and led to a brief disturbance in the area.
Local police from the Bolinj police station arrived promptly at the scene and brought the situation under control. "We have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to public mischief and hurting religious sentiments," a police official said.
One person has been detained for questioning in connection with the incident. Meanwhile, police have heightened security and patrolling in the area to prevent any further unrest.
Authorities have urged citizens to maintain peace and avoid circulating unverified messages or inflammatory content on social media. "We request the public to cooperate and not fall prey to rumours," the official added.
Further investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits behind the act.
