Mumbai, Apr 10: In a shocking incident that sent ripples across the city, a 50-year-old builder from Navi Mumbai was attacked by two bike-borne assailants in Chembur on Wednesday night. The attackers opened fire and chased the victim's vehicle for nearly a kilometre before fleeing the scene.
The victim, Sadruddin Khan, a resident of Belapur, was on his way to Panvel around 9.30 pm when his Land Rover SUV came under fire at the Diamond Garden junction, a bustling traffic point in Chembur. The attackers, riding a two-wheeler, fired at least three bullets at the car when it halted at the traffic signal.

As per officials, Khan was seated in the front passenger seat when the bullets were fired. One bullet grazed his face, causing injuries, while two bullets were recovered from the vehicle. The third bullet, suspected to have struck from the front during the chase, is yet to be retrieved.
The gunmen pursued Khan’s car till Maitri Park, en route to Trombay, before making their escape.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 6), Navnath Dhavale, confirmed the firing incident, stating, “Two shooters on a bike fired bullets at a builder when his car stopped at a signal. The shooters managed to flee and we are searching for them.”
Following the attack, police barricaded the crime scene, and a forensic team was deployed to collect crucial evidence. Several teams have been mobilized to trace the accused, and checkpoints have been set up at key locations, including Mumbai-Thane borders and Navi Mumbai entry points.
An attempt to murder case will be filed against unidentified individuals at Chembur Police Station, a senior officer said.
The motive behind the attack is still under investigation, and authorities are examining all possible angles, including professional rivalry or extortion threats.
