Mumbai, Apr 13: In a significant operation, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Saturday arrested a passenger at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport after recovering 6.7 kg of smuggled gold bars, valued at around Rs 6.3 cr.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officials intercepted the passenger who had arrived in Mumbai from Bangkok. A thorough search led to the discovery of the gold bars, which were ingeniously hidden inside the shoes he was wearing.

Upon his arrest, further questioning revealed the involvement of a prospective buyer in Mumbai, who was reportedly part of the smuggling syndicate. The buyer was subsequently apprehended in a follow-up operation.
The DRI officials are continuing their investigation into the smuggling network, and both suspects are being held for further questioning. This seizure highlights the growing efforts by authorities to curb illegal gold trafficking at major airports across the country.
