Washington, Apr 23: In the aftermath of the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed to US President Donald Trump that India is determined to ensure that the perpetrators and their backers face strict punishment.
President Trump reached out to Prime Minister Modi over the phone to express deep condolences and offer full support following the attack, which claimed the lives of dozens of tourists. Details of the conversation are awaited in a White House readout. However, Karoline Levitt, the White House spokesperson, during her daily briefing, sharply condemned the attack and reiterated America’s strong support to India.

Taking to social media platform X, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “President Donald Trump @realDonaldTrump @POTUS called PM @narendramodi and conveyed his deepest condolences at the loss of innocent lives in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. President Trump strongly condemned the terror attack and expressed full support to India to bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous attack. India and the United States stand together in the fight against terror."
An Indian government official, speaking to IANS on condition of anonymity, revealed that Prime Minister Modi firmly told President Trump, “India is determined to bring the perpetrators and backers of this cowardly and heinous terrorist attack to justice.” The official hinted that action would not be limited to just the foot soldiers of the attack but would extend to those who supported and enabled them.
The government’s strong resolve echoes its past responses to terrorist provocations. Following the 2016 Uri attack, the Modi administration launched surgical strikes across the Line of Control. Similarly, after the 2019 Pulwama terror strike on CRPF personnel, the Indian Air Force carried out airstrikes targeting a major terrorist camp in Balakot, deep inside Pakistani territory.
As India and the United States reaffirm their solidarity in combating terrorism, a strong retaliatory move is anticipated, keeping in line with the Modi government’s established policy of decisive action.
