Washington, Apr 25: In the wake of the gruesome terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the United States has strongly condemned the incident and reiterated its steadfast support to India in its fight against terrorism.

Describing the attack as “heinous,” US State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, during a press briefing on Thursday, said, “The US stands with India and strongly condemns all acts of terrorism.” She reaffirmed the sentiments expressed earlier by President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, while expressing condolences to the victims.

“We pray for the lives lost and for the swift recovery of the injured. The perpetrators of this heinous act must be brought to justice,” Bruce stated.

When questioned about Pakistan’s potential involvement, Bruce refrained from assigning blame but said the situation was being monitored closely. “It’s a horrible situation, but this will be the extent of our comment at this point. We are not currently taking a position on the status of Kashmir or Jammu either,” she clarified.

President Trump had promptly reached out to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday, the day of the attack, to express his condolences and reaffirm US support.

US Vice-President J.D. Vance, who concluded a four-day visit to India shortly after the incident, also extended his sympathies. “Our condolences go out to the people of Kashmir. The President has already spoken with Prime Minister Modi, and I expect to speak with him later today. We are committed to providing all possible support to India and its people,” Vance said.

The US administration has maintained a firm stance on terrorism, notably supporting India in its efforts to bring terrorists to justice. During Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Washington in February, President Trump had personally announced the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, accused in the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Rana is now in the custody of Indian law enforcement.
