New Delhi, Apr 27: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially taken over the investigation of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, which resulted in the tragic deaths of 26 people, including a Nepali national. The decision comes following orders from the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

The J&K Police had initially been handling the case, but the NIA’s involvement signals a heightened response. Since April 23, the NIA teams have been stationed at the attack site, intensifying their efforts to gather evidence.

The NIA, led by senior officials including an Inspector General (IG) and a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), is meticulously questioning eyewitnesses who saw the chilling attack unfold in the scenic Baisaran valley. The teams are scrutinizing every detail, including the entry and exit points, to uncover the terrorists’ modus operandi.

On April 22, a group of terrorists opened fire on sightseers at the Baisaran meadows, a popular tourist spot in Pahalgam. The attack left 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen dead. Eyewitnesses revealed that the terrorists specifically targeted Hindu men, asking for their religion before opening fire at close range.

A massive search operation is underway in the region, with several suspects detained and the homes of ten declared terrorists demolished. The NIA is working alongside forensic experts to uncover the full scope of the terror plot behind this tragic attack.
