Patna, May 2: In two separate incidents of reckless driving in Bihar, a youth was killed and five others critically injured as two speeding vehicles caused chaos and fury in Patna and Vaishali districts.

Early Friday morning, a tragic collision took place near Shahjahanpur police station in Patna district when a speeding truck rammed into a motorcycle carrying three young men traveling from Parsan Bigha to Circular locality. Harsh Kumar, son of Devendra Yadav, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a nearby hospital. His two companions remain in critical condition.

The truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle. Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving and launched a manhunt to nab the absconding driver.

As news of the accident spread, locals blocked the road in protest, demanding immediate arrest of the driver and installation of speed breakers and barricades to enhance road safety. Police have since pacified the crowd and assured swift action.

In a separate mishap on Thursday, another life was lost in Vaishali district when a pickup van mowed down four individuals standing roadside near Hathsarganj on the Hajipur-Lalganj main road. Roshan Kumar (24) died on the spot, while three others — Vikas Thakur, Mohammad Anjay, and Sunny Kumar — were seriously injured and admitted to Hajipur Sadar Hospital.

In a dramatic turn, furious locals caught the pickup driver, Anil Kumar, and torched his vehicle on the spot. The road remained blocked for several hours as residents demanded stricter enforcement of traffic regulations.

Authorities have appealed for calm and promised to bolster road safety infrastructure in the affected areas.
