New Delhi, May 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reaffirmed India’s uncompromising commitment to combating terrorism, vowing firm action against perpetrators and their sponsors following the brutal Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of over 26 civilians.
Speaking during a joint press briefing with visiting Angolan President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco, Modi said, “We are firmly united in our stance against terrorism. I expressed my gratitude to President Lourenco and the people of Angola for their sympathies to those killed in the Pahalgam terror attack.”
“We are committed to taking firm and decisive actions against terrorists and those who support them,” the Prime Minister added, highlighting India's growing resolve to escalate counter-terror measures.
The April 22 attack, carried out by four heavily armed militants linked to The Resistance Front (TRF) — an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba — targeted a group of tourists. Two of the terrorists were confirmed to be Pakistani nationals, intensifying India’s accusations against Islamabad for harboring and supporting cross-border terrorism.
In response, India convened an emergency Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting on April 23, during which sweeping retaliatory measures were announced:
• Suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty
• Closure of the Attari-Wagah border
• Revocation of all visas issued to Pakistani nationals
• Crackdown on pro-Pakistani YouTube channels and social media handles
• Reduction in diplomatic staff at Pakistan’s High Commission
Following the CCS meeting, Modi had issued a stern warning, stating, “We will identify, trace, and punish every terrorist and their supporters. We will pursue them to the ends of the Earth.”
These measures reflect a sharp escalation in India’s national security posture and a decisive shift toward a zero-tolerance approach in dealing with state-sponsored terror.
India’s assertive response has drawn global attention, with several nations urging restraint while acknowledging India's right to defend its sovereignty and civilian lives.
