Varanasi, May 31: Poet Dr Kumar Vishwas on Saturday lauded the respect accorded to women in Indian culture and their proven capabilities in governance, citing Punyashlok Mata Ahilyadevi Holkar as a shining example.

Speaking at a two-day cultural event organised by the National Commission for Women (NCW) to mark the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyadevi Holkar, Vishwas said, “Since ancient times, women have proven their worth in every field including governance.”

He praised Kashi for its grand celebration of Ahilyabai Holkar’s legacy, noting her contributions not only to Kashi but to many pilgrimage sites across India. “Her character is a wonderful blend of Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Durga,” he added.

NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar echoed these sentiments, describing Ahilyadevi as a rare combination of courage, humility, dedication, and political acumen. “Her virtues continue to inspire women today,” she said.

The event also featured an exhibition and rangoli art celebrating Mata Ahilyadevi’s life, aiming to raise public awareness and inspire contributions to the nation’s welfare.

Earlier, Kumar Vishwas reminded the audience that democracy and women’s leadership have deep roots in India’s Vedic history. He energized the gathering with his poem “Main Kashi Hoon,” which the audience enthusiastically joined in reciting.
