New Delhi/Copenhagen, Jun 1: India’s decisive response to the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam has drawn international praise, with Denmark’s former ambassador to India, Freddy Svane, commending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and the country’s firm stand against cross-border terrorism.

In a conversation, Svane lauded PM Modi as “the true defender of India,” describing him as a leader who has demonstrated the ability to act decisively and convey a strong message to the world. “You need a strong leader like Prime Minister Narendra Modi who can steer that kind of direction and make it clear to the world that I am the man and I am the true defender of India,” Svane said.

He also welcomed India’s robust diplomatic campaign following Operation Sindoor, aimed at holding Pakistan accountable on the global stage for its sponsorship of terrorism. Svane noted that India’s efforts to send all-party delegations to different countries will strengthen international support for its counterterrorism stance.

Highlighting Pakistan’s continued role in fostering terror beyond its borders, Svane called for a united global condemnation of such actions. “It is important for all countries of the world to speak in one voice against terrorism,” he emphasized.

Svane remarked that PM Modi’s popularity, both at home and abroad, has surged in the wake of Operation Sindoor. “PM Modi is being seen across the world as a very, very important, strong and strategic-thinking leader, who is so important for all of us,” he said.

He described the emergence of a ‘New India’—a strong power center in Asia under PM Modi’s leadership—as a welcome development, even though it follows the tragic Pahalgam incident. “When times are bad and things have to be dealt with, you also need someone who can move from words to actions. That has happened,” Svane observed.

India’s diplomatic offensive and its resolute military response are being recognized internationally as markers of a mature, assertive power prepared to defend its people and its sovereignty against the scourge of terrorism.
