New Delhi, Jun 5: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave a strong message on environmental consciousness by planting a sapling at Mahavir Jayanti Park in the national capital. As part of this gesture, he also launched the second phase of the much-acclaimed initiative, 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0', urging citizens to join hands in nurturing nature and honouring motherhood.
Taking to social media platform X, PM Modi expressed his thoughts saying, “This #WorldEnvironmentDay, let's deepen our efforts towards protecting our planet and overcoming the challenges we face. I also compliment all those working at the grassroots to make our environment greener and better.”
The tree plantation campaign, which aims to plant 10 crore trees between June 5 and September 30, builds upon the earlier phase launched on the same day last year when PM Modi had planted a Peepal sapling at Buddha Jayanti Park. The emotional initiative, where individuals plant a tree in their mother’s name, has resonated deeply across the nation — blending environmental commitment with personal tribute.
Highlighting the progress made in recent years, PM Modi stated that India has witnessed a consistent rise in green cover due to concerted national and local efforts. He acknowledged the vital role of grassroots communities, saying their active participation continues to shape India’s path towards sustainable development.
As World Environment Day is observed across the country, the Prime Minister’s renewed call has invigorated citizens to take personal responsibility and contribute to environmental protection — one tree at a time, in honour of their mothers and Mother Earth.
