Mangaluru: Fisheries minister hands over Rs 10 lac relief to families of missing fishermen

Mangaluru, Jun 6: Minister for fisheries, ports and inland water transport, Mankal S Vaidya, on Friday visited the homes of two fishermen from Bengre who went missing after venturing out to sea on May 29.

Offering his condolences to the grieving families, the minister handed over cheques of Rs 10 lac each from the Fishermen’s Distress Relief Fund. He stated that search operations for the missing fishermen are still ongoing and assured the families of all possible support from the state government.

 

The minister further informed that earlier the relief amount provided to families of missing fishermen was Rs 8 lac, but the state government has now increased it to Rs 10 lac per family.

MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Ivan D’Souza, director of fisheries Dinesh Kumar, joint director Siddayya, deputy director Dileep Kumar, and leaders of various fishermen’s associations were also present on the occasion.
