New Delhi, Jun 13: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday to brief him on Israel’s latest military action against Iran under ‘Operation Rising Lion.’
PM Modi confirmed the call on social media, saying, “I shared India’s concerns and emphasised the need for early restoration of peace and stability in the region.”
Netanyahu has held talks with several world leaders, including Modi, amid rising tensions after Israeli fighter jets struck Iran’s uranium enrichment site at Natanz—reportedly the largest of its kind in the country.
According to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF), the strikes damaged underground facilities vital to Iran’s nuclear weapons ambitions. Netanyahu declared the operation would continue "as many days as it takes" to neutralise the Iranian threat.
India, responding to the developments, expressed “deep concern” and urged both sides to avoid escalation. “India enjoys close and friendly relations with both countries and stands ready to extend all possible support,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement, advising Indian nationals in the region to stay alert.
Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar has launched a global diplomatic push to gather support for the operation, with Israeli missions on emergency duty to secure international legitimacy for the strikes.
