Ahmedabad, Jun 16: As grief grips Ahmedabad following the June 12 Dreamliner crash that claimed 241 lives, Gujarat home minister Harsh Sanghavi on Sunday lauded the exceptional dedication of forensic experts working around the clock to identify victims through DNA testing.
Taking to social media platform X, Sanghavi wrote a heartfelt tribute to the 36-member team of forensic experts, calling them the ‘unsung heroes’ of the tragedy. These professionals, he said, have shown exemplary courage and commitment, setting aside personal struggles to help bring closure to grieving families.

“One expert is continuing duty even as his mother, with only 20% heart function, awaits emergency surgery,” the minister revealed. He also noted that eight women on the team are mothers to toddlers under three years old, yet continue their mission without pause.
“Their selflessness and dedication to duty are a testament to their professionalism and compassion,” Sanghavi said. “We salute these heroes working day and night to bring solace to the families affected by the tragedy.”
The devastating crash of the Boeing 787-8 left hundreds of charred remains, making identification through conventional means nearly impossible. The ongoing DNA testing at Ahmedabad Civil Hospital remains a massive and emotionally charged operation, with anxious families pressing for quicker handovers.
By Sunday noon, 22 more DNA matches had been confirmed, raising the total number to 44.
Despite the chaos, Sanghavi assured that the government and forensic science team are doing everything possible to expedite the identification process while maintaining accuracy and sensitivity.
