Patna, Jun 17: In a series of tragic lightning strikes on Monday, six people lost their lives and eight others sustained severe injuries in Bihar’s Bagaha (West Champaran) and Buxar districts, plunging multiple villages into mourning.

The first incident occurred in Meghwal Mathiya village, Ramnagar block of Bagaha, where Shahabuddin Ansari and Afsar Ansari died instantly after being struck while sheltering under trees during a sudden thunderstorm. Three others — Shamim Ansari, Azim Mian, and Dheeraj — were seriously injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.

The second fatal strike hit Buxar district, with casualties reported from Chausa and Rajpur police station areas.

In Chausa, lightning claimed the lives of Mithlesh Ram (22), Shri Bhagwan alias Jhola Singh (60), and Virendra Gond (45), while a head of cattle also perished. Neeraj Kumar (16), Amit Chaudhary (30), and Sonu Kumar (18) were among the injured and are being treated at Buxar Sadar Hospital.
Chausa police station in-charge Shambhu Bhagat confirmed three deaths and three injuries under his jurisdiction.

Meanwhile, in Rajpur, Ankush Kumar (11) succumbed to injuries while Anant Ram remains in critical condition.

The back-to-back strikes have sparked grief and anxiety across the affected communities. Residents have urged the Bihar government to provide immediate financial compensation to the families of the deceased and ensure adequate medical care for the injured.

The Meteorological Department has warned of continued thunderstorm activity in parts of Bihar, urging people to stay indoors and avoid taking shelter under trees during lightning events.
