Faridabad, Jun 20: In a chilling case of alleged honour killing and deception, police in Faridabad recovered the body of a young woman buried just outside her in-laws’ house—nearly two months after she was reported missing.
The victim, Tannu Kumar, a native of Shikohabad in Firozabad district, was married two years ago to Arun Singh of Roshan Nagar. Her body was unearthed Friday morning in the presence of Naib Tehsildar Jaswant Singh, following persistent appeals from her family.

According to police, Tannu’s husband Arun Singh and father-in-law Bhoop Singh allegedly used an earthmover to dig a 10-foot pit on April 23, which was filled the next day by a mason. Soon after, the family filed a missing person complaint, claiming Tannu was mentally unstable.
Tannu’s father, Hakim, said his daughter had faced constant dowry harassment. She had returned to her parental home for nearly a year, and only after a village panchayat’s mediation was she sent back to her husband’s home. However, the abuse allegedly continued.
Hakim, growing suspicious during a visit to Roshan Nagar, had noticed a freshly covered patch of earth outside the house. “Despite pointing this out multiple times, police refused to act,” he said.
Following his repeated complaints, the authorities finally acted, leading to the grim discovery. Four members of the in-laws’ family—Bhoop Singh (from Mainpuri, UP), his wife Sonia, son Arun Singh, and daughter Kajal—have been booked. Bhoop Singh and Arun are currently being interrogated, while raids are underway to arrest the others.
Tannu’s remains were sent for post-mortem at Badshah Khan Civil Hospital and later handed over to her family. Police have assured further action and investigation into the case.
