Media Release

Mangaluru, Jun 23: On the vibrant morning of June 21, the spirit of St Theresa’s School soared high as over 200 dynamic students marched forward with a mission to create a cleaner, safer, and more aware society. As part of the school’s social awareness initiative, a powerful Jaatha was organized with the twin themes: “Cleanliness during the rainy season to prevent diseases” and “The environmental hazards of plastic usage.”

With banners fluttering and voices raised in unison, students from grades 6 to 10, accompanied by their teachers and staff, embarked on their journey from the school campus. The route wove through St Theresa’s locality to Mallikatte, drawing the attention of the public with energetic slogans, vibrant placards, and an unmistakable message of environmental and social responsibility.

A major highlight of the procession was a powerful street play in Kannada, performed near the Kadri Market. The play, designed and enacted by the students, used humor, drama, and local dialect to shed light on the ill effects of plastic pollution and the urgent need for monsoon hygiene. Passersby stopped, listened, and applauded a clear sign that the message had struck a chord.

The event received tremendous support from the East Zone Mangaluru Police, with Inspectors and their teams from both the Crime and Traffic Departments. Their coordination and vigilance ensured not just safety and smooth traffic regulation, but also added a sense of discipline and pride to the campaign.

Adding inspiration and encouragement to the event, Traffic sub-inspector Rosamma addressed the students. In her impactful speech, she emphasized road safety, civic sense, and the need for youth involvement in nation-building. Her words were met with rapt attention and a renewed sense of duty among the young listeners.

Further elevating the event’s stature was the presence of corporator Naveen, who appreciated the students' commitment and praised the school for taking up such a meaningful cause. He lauded the initiative as a beacon of social awareness and encouraged the students to remain active voices in their communities.

This remarkable endeavor was brought to fruition under the visionary leadership of principal Sr Lourdes, whose passion for holistic education continues to drive the school’s outreach efforts. The tireless planning and coordination by Veena and Flavia, along with the unwavering support of all accompanying teachers, ensured that the event was not only successful but deeply impactful.

Special thanks are due to the East Zone Police officials their active presence and seamless support made this student-led initiative a true community celebration.

This Jaatha was more than a march it was a resounding call to action, a vivid expression of young voices committed to change. It reflected the powerful truth that when education meets empathy, and awareness is backed by action, the result is nothing short of transformational.
