NSCN (K-YA) militant gunned down in Arunachal gunfight

Itanagar, Jul 7: A suspected NSCN (K-YA) militant was killed in an intense gun battle with Assam Rifles personnel in Arunachal Pradesh’s Longding district on Sunday, officials confirmed.

The encounter took place during a routine patrol by the Assam Rifles troops from Wakka Company Operating Base (COB), operating under the Khonsa Battalion, near the dense forest stretch between Khogla and Lyangche, close to the India-Myanmar border.

According to officials, the patrol unit came under sudden and heavy fire from a pre-laid ambush deep inside the jungle. Reacting with swift precision, the troops launched a counter-assault, forcing the insurgents to flee the area.

"One NSCN (K-YA) cadre was neutralised in the exchange of fire. A massive cache of war-like stores, including arms, ammunition and military-grade supplies, was recovered from the site," a senior officer stated.

The recovery of such an arsenal hints at a possible hostile operation planned by the insurgents, he added. A makeshift hideout used by the group was also discovered during a post-operation sweep.

Security has been tightened in the region as combing operations continue.
